Another thing I notice: the lack of games against NC schools by UNC Charlotte. I'm assuming the reason is the other schools won't play the 49ers(?).

I guess you could say that about the big four and Charlotte, but why wouldn't Charlotte play other hyphenate schools. I noticed that, too.

Charlotte is trying to drop the UNC prefix. The old basketball court said "Charlotte USA", further distancing them from the rest of the state.

Playing in the A-10 gives them no in-state conference games. Their non-conference schedule was a mix of larger programs (Indiana, Syracuse) and smaller (North Texas, Georgia State). I thought Georgia Tech was their "State" but there is a State school too.

Yes, I know they have dropped UNC from their name. I just think they are stupid.

The other North Carolina schools listed all play in-state schools as part of their nonconference schedule. There is nothing that precludes Charlotte from doing the same. There are plenty of larger and smaller schools to choose from.

The in-state games I list are all in-state games, not just in-state games in the conference.

Have they really dropped the "UNC" officially? I've talked to UNCC-er -- Charlotte alums who are split. Half thing having UNC at the front gives them a higher academic standing. The other half think they are big enough to be known as just Charlotte. Personally (and this is NCSU blood shining through), I think "University of Charlotte" is better than UNC-Charlotte. It's worked for Pittsburgh, Louisville, Cincinnati, etc. The city of Charlotte is big enough to be able to support a school known as just "Charlotte."

Having said all that, the school's website address is www.uncc.edu (not charlotte.edu), and the logo still has "UNC" on it.

Here's the problem with just being known as Charlotte. There are few schools known just as city names -- you named the few exceptions. There are many known as just state names.

But Pittsburgh and Louisville are the "University of whatever." Even if UNCC wants to be called "Charlotte" for short, it can't be the "University of Charlotte" because the school is the "University of North Carolina at Charlotte."

Other schools that are part of a larger system don't have a problem with this -- like UCLA. They don't call themselves "Los Angeles."

I think everyone should call them UNC Charlotte, and eventually they will go back to it and realize they were stupid -- just like Kent State and their misguided attempt to be "Kent."

Ah, but I'm saying that if they truly want their own identity, then they should change the school name to the University of Charlotte. If not, then they can become North Carolina State University of Charlotte.

Maybe, but when someone says "Charlotte" won last night, it's assumed they are talking about the Bobcats.
