Best 'sammich' in the state?

KBrew sent along this Esquire link which describes the best sanwiches/wraps/gyros in America. On this list is Chapel Hill's Allen & Sons barbecue sandwich. I just can't fathom that it could be any better than Wilber's, but I digress. (This list also includes McDonald's McRib and Chik-Fil-A's chicken sandwich, for what it's worth.)

What is the best sandwich you've ever had in the Old North State? The aforementioned Wilber's (Goldsboro) takes the crown in the pulled pork category. I'm a HUGE fan of Sunflower's (Raleigh) chicken salad sandwich. Until it closed recently, The Grape's (Raleigh) $15 steak sandwich was one of the best things I had ever tasted. (Perhaps the fact that a sandwich cost $15 led to The Grape's demise?)

Any other votes?

The Shrimp Burger at Raleigh Times is Wonderful! Also the Avacado/Tomato Sandwich there is excellent - especially if you add bacon!

You know, I used to love getting a shrimp burger from Cubbie's (Greenville, other ENC locations), but haven't had one from there in a long time. Also, El' (Morehead City) makes a great shrimp burger. I'll have to try the one at the Raleigh Times!

A freakin' $15 sandwich?

To the folks of Grape's, as they say, "you get what you get."

I'm not much of a sandwich guy. If I had to pick one, I'd say the barbeque sandwich in the Carter Finely pressbox back in the day was the best I've ever had. Man, that, with some burnt burgers, really hit the spot on gameday.

Best chicken salad in the state (and, therefore, the best chicken salad sandwich in the state) is definitely at Robert's Grocery Store in Wrightsville Beach.

I don't eat 'em, but you shrimp burger fans should try Big Oak Drive In in Pine Knoll Shores. I hear they are excellent.

The ribeye sandwich at Edwards Mill Bar & Grill (Raleigh) is defenitely top notch but I swear my allegiance to East Boulevard Bar & Grill (Charlotte) for their tuna melt.

I will have to vote for the Shrimp Burger at Cubbies. I think I understand why Allen and sons was listed. It is right down the road form my house. There is no way that it is better than Wilbur's - but to most of the folks around here it is the best place to get Eastern Style BBQ in the Chapel Hill area - but for anyone like myself growing up down east, there is no real comparison.
